So. I made an AU with heavy lore changes about that specific thing. Because why not.
In this AU, the trapping of dark enchantress still happens, this time within the school specifically due to the eternal full moon that resides there, surpressing her powers(oh? this doesnt exist in canon? no it doesnt, we continue lads in this unchecked territory) . But what of pure vanilla? PV still is stripped of his memories, but this time decides to stay within the (somewhat) abandoned academy, believing he has ties there. As the only fully sane person, the headmaster, resides in a specific area, he mostly spends his time avoiding the "Monsters"(read: professors) and trying to figure out what happened here. Within the depths of the school, he finds the primordial milk.

The Primordial Ingredients (Milk/Butter, Flour, Sugar, Eggs, and, depending on the historian, Salt) are non cookie beings associated with enlightenment and sentience. They were what was used to create soul jams, and hold their own personal sentience due to various magical phenomena that was occurring around them. They are associated with cognition, volition, emotion, motivation, and companionship, all of which are required to "be human". They are somewhat elderitch in nature, and the Witches are not aware of the extent of their sentience.
The primordial milk offers him knowledge, power, and companionship, in echange for some of his flavor. Pure vanilla, though reluctant, is overwhelmed, an amnesiac, and this thing is the only thing that has been nice to him in months- so he agrees. With this agreement, he loses his purity(get your mind outta the gutter) and becomes Vanilla milk cookie, scion of cognition. Primordial milk, now named the Milk Maiden, gives a suggestion...
Vanilla milk is surprised, but agrees. If he can rebuild the academy, maybe he can regain his memories. Also, he feels somewhat of a... devotion. to this place. And to the Milk Maiden (surely this has nothing to do with the pact he made with it no sir). So he begins his work rebuilding the academy.
